Welcome!
In days long past, hunters, fishers, and other outdoor enthusiasts learned the ways of the mountains, the woods and the streams from their predecessors. Many of those lessons were not directly taught, but caught in conversations around a campfire in the woods, in the old pickup on the way to deer camp, on the trail, or along a trout stream somewhere.
Today’s outdoors enthusiast is more likely to learn from other mentors they encounter in the pages of books or magazines, at seminars, and in various online venues. But those venues are produced by people of all skill levels, and the quality of the information communicated is sometimes suspect.
The Alaska Outdoors University was born out of a need for qualified mentors who possess the skills and knowledge, who have a passion for sharing what they know, and who can do so effectively. It is our hope that all who come here will learn the skills, tactics, and methods necessary for experiencing the Alaska outdoors safely and effectively. Perhaps more importantly, we hope that you will be encouraged to develop your own respect for our natural world, and a personal outdoor ethic you can communicate to those you encounter on the trail.
The lessons contained here are designed to equip you with the knowledge you need in the pursuit of Alaska’s fish and game resources. We are unapologetically pro-hunting and pro-fishing, and we advocate respect for the land in the ethical pursuit of our fish and game resources. We also recognize other users of Alaska’s wilderness, and we encourage respectful coexistence between all user groups.
Welcome aboard!
